When you first find out you are pregnant, there are a whole range of different emotions that flow through the body. They range from complete excitement to shear panic. Pregnancy and birth should be a rewarding memory that you treasure for the rest of your life, and at Synergy Within we believe it is your birth right to have an experience that you can look back on with happiness and joy.
Why aren’t all mothers-to-be and their birth companions filled with this happiness and joy from the time that they find out they are pregnant? There are many factors that cause a mother to have some anxiety in regards to pregnancy and birth. Some of these factors include relationships, careers, medical care, finances, and other peoples “horror” stories. Regardless of the reason for the anxiety, when anxiety is present it creates tension within the body. If this tension is carried into the birthing, then the body reacts by tightening up. This can cause the birthing to be longer, more stressful, and painful.
All this “stuff” has gotten in the way of doing what women have been doing for thousands of years – giving birth. The female body is perfectly designed to carry and birth her child, so would nature be so cruel that it somehow flaws this perfect design to cause agonising, long, difficult births? No. What has happened is that the natural instinct and ability to give birth the way nature intended has been slowly eroded away by the expectancy that birth should be painful, difficult and medically managed. For all women who are having healthy pregnancies, and carrying healthy babies, birth should be allowed to just happen naturally.
The caesarean section rate in Australia in over 30% and rising at the fastest rate of all OECD countries. In the relatively small amount of instances where a caesarean section is required for a true medical urgency, there is no doubting their importance. Unfortunately a great deal of caesarean sections being performed are maternally elected, or carried out where the is no true medical urgency. The basic cause of this is that women do not understand or trust their bodies natural abilities to give birth. Combine this with the fear and the amount of medical intervention given, it is little wonder that some women feel that birthing their baby is an event that they would rather not have to go through.
At Synergy Within we have made it our goal to assist mothers and their birth companions to take ownership of their birthing experiences so that they can feel informed, educated and empowered to have the birthing that they desire. Our services range from one off consultations to deal with pregnancy and birth related issues - to complete childbirth education.
